A casi 10 años de la promulgación en Gaceta Oficial de la creación del distrito de Tierras Altas, (13 de septiembre de 2013), exploremos un poco la historia de este hermoso distrito
¿Cuándo entró en vigor el distrito de Tierras Altas?
Cronología:
Luego de muchos años de esfuerzos y trabajo de diferentes fuerzas vivas del hoy distrito de Tierras Altas, quienes dedicaron tiempo y recursos para que esta iniciativa se convirtiera en realidad, estos fueron los resultados:
13 de septiembre de 2013: mediante ley 55 se crea geográficamente el distrito Tierras Altas como el décimo cuarto distrito de la provincia de Chiriquí. Esta ley dicta su entrada en vigencia para el 2 de mayo de 2019.
9 de mayo de 2017: mediante Ley 22 se adelanta su entrada en vigencia para el día 1 de julio de 2017
1 de julio de 2017: entrada en vigencia de la Ley 22 que certifica el nacimiento oficial del distrito, aunque sin su estructura política, que será electa por primera vez en la historia el 2 de mayo de 2019
2 de mayo de 2019: primera elección en el distrito de Alcaldes y Representantes.
Se declara que todos los 13 de septiembre de cada año se celebra la Fundación del del Distrito Tierras Altas.
¿Cuáles son los corregimientos del distrito de Tierras Altas?
El distrito Tierras Altas está conformado por los corregimientos Cuesta de Piedra, Volcán, Paso Ancho, Nueva California y Cerro Punta, todos segregados del distrito de Bugaba. El corregimiento de Volcán es la cabecera del distrito de Tierras Altas.

Representante de Volcán: Juan Carlos Lezcano
Representante de Nueva California: Alexander Chavarría
Representante de Cuesta de Piedra: Franklin Espinosa

Representante de Paso Ancho: Yadira Santamaría
¿Dónde está ubicado el distrito Tierras Altas?
El Distrito Tierras Altas está ubicado en la provincia de Chiriquí, República de Panamá. Cuenta con una población aproximada de 20,471 habitantes (datos que cambiarán con el más reciente censo llevado a cabo en 2023).
Localizado a unos 1,384 metros de altitud sobre el nivel del mar, alberga atractivos turísticos como el imponente Volcán Barú, Las Lagunas de Volcán, los Petroglifos de Barriles, entre otros.
